Description
Skegby Manor House is a manor house that now stands as a roofless ruin. It dates back to 1207 and the late 13th century and was built by the Spigurnel family. The structure is made of coursed and squared rubble along with dressed stone, although most of the complete openings are now blocked.
On the north wall of the hall, there are two different chamfered windows to the left. To their right is a round-headed doorway featuring shafts, imposts, and a hood mould. Further to the right, there is another doorway with two square openings above it, followed by a slit opening. The north gable of the solar has a chamfered lancet to the right and a larger central lancet above it.
On the west side, there is a buttress and a chamfered doorway to the left, with a door to the right and a slit window above it. The west side also has an off-centre external side wall stack flanked by large broken openings. The building was excavated and consolidated in 1983 and is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
