Description

The hand-frame shop at the former Allen Solly Factory dates from around 1870 and 1880. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features Welsh slate roofs adorned with terracotta ridge tiles and finials. The building is two stories tall and has two brick gable stacks along with three circular metal vents on the main range.

The main block has a total of 15 windows arranged in a pattern of seven windows, then one central window, followed by another seven. The central section features a two-story staircase projection with a tall window between the floors and single doors on both sides. On either side of this projection, there are seven three-light glazing bar casements, with the two on the far right lacking glazing bars and one on the left converted into a doorway. All these window openings have segment heads. Above, there are seven three-light glazing bar casements on either side, all reaching the eaves. The rear of the building has a blind ground floor and fifteen similar windows at the eaves.

An additional block to the right has six windows, with cill bands on both floors. To the right, there is a single doorway with a plank door, and to the left, five tall segment-headed cross casements with glazing bars. Above these, there are five shorter cross casements reaching the eaves.
