Description
The Arnold War Memorial is a First World War memorial made of granite from Aberdeen. It is located in Arnot Hill Park, positioned between a Grade II-listed house and a lake. The memorial features a tall Celtic wheel cross on a tapering trapezoid plinth, which is set on a two-stepped base. The main face of the cross is adorned with intricate carvings, and all four sides of the plinth are inscribed with names.
The front face of the shaft has a relief inscription that reads: "IN/ GRATEFUL/ MEMORY/ OF/ THE MEN OF/ ARNOLD/ WHO GAVE/ THEIR LIVES/ IN THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914 - 1918." Additionally, the front face of the plinth includes a later inscription: "AND ALSO OF THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES/ DURING THE WAR 1939 - 1945/ AND OTHER CONFLICTS."
The memorial is enclosed within a small square area, surrounded by blue brick dwarf walls and decorative iron railings.
