Description
The gateway and boundary wall at Daybrook Almshouses was built in 1899, possibly designed by J. L. Pearson Jnr. It was funded by Sir John Robinson and features rockfaced and plain ashlar with chamfered coping and spiked iron railings. The structure has a C-plan and measures approximately 100 by 50 meters. The central gateway is ornate with a pediment and is flanked by two piers that have square domed capitals and finials. A frieze is inscribed with the words "Daybrook Alms Houses. These houses were erected by Sir John Robinson in memory of his son Sir John Sandford Robinson who died April 21st 1898." The gateway includes a central pair of iron gates and single wicket gates on either side, along with six square piers that have stepped square domed caps.
