Description

Arnot Hill House is a house built in 1866, now serving as a social club. The building features rockfaced and plain ashlar stone with hipped and polygonal slate roofs, and part of it is rendered. It has a chamfered plinth and quoins, a first-floor band, and elaborate bracketed eaves adorned with tile ornament. The structure is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with four side wall stacks and two ridge stacks.

The windows are plain sashes with both round and square heads. The south front includes a central canted two-storey tower porch with a central round-headed doorway that has a keystone, flanked by single sash windows. To the left of the porch are two additional sashes, and to the right are two French windows. Above the porch, there is a central round-headed double lancet window, with a round window above it, flanked by single sashes.

The west front features a central half-round bay flanked by single sashes and single hipped terminal wings, each containing a canted bay window. The central bay and wings each have three sashes, and above them are eleven sashes. The rendered rear elevation has seven sashes, with nine sashes above.

The inner south door has a round-headed opening with shafts and single flanking lights, leading to a half-glazed door. Above this door are two quatrefoils. Inside, the house features a cantilevered stone stair with an iron balustrade and several ashlar Gothick fireplaces.
