Description

Home Ales Brewery Office and attached railings is a brewery office building and water tower constructed in 1936, designed for Home Ales Brewery by T. Cecil Howitt. The structure is steel framed with brick cladding and features ashlar dressings. The main west front has a large square arched lorry entrance, flanked by ornate iron gates with gilded lettering. On either side of the entrance are single panel doorways topped with octagonal bronze lamps. Above the arch, the words "HOME BREWERY COMPANY LIMITED" are displayed in raised lettering. A large Diocletian window with brick mullions and metal framed casements is positioned above the entrance.

The building features a tall square tower with slightly battered sides, adorned with pairs of stripped pilaster buttresses on each face, a small pantile hood, and a tall brick parapet with ashlar coping. The side faces display raised lettering stating "HOME OF THE BEST ALES." Flanking the central tower are two-storey office wings with a deep basement, faced in ashlar. Both floors have windows with metal frames, set back with painted relief panels in between, flanked by plain brick piers and a continuous ashlar cill band. Above is a tall ashlar parapet with ashlar coping, and a set-back attic storey faced in ashlar, featuring four metal frame windows on each side and a banded ashlar parapet. At the front, a low brick wall with an ashlar parapet is topped with iron railings and piers.
