Description
The Cedars is a house, later used as a hospital and now converted into flats, dating from around 1830, with alterations from the 1870s and restoration and conversion work in approximately 1982. The building is constructed of stucco, and has hipped slate roofs with ridge and side wall coped stacks featuring multiple flues. It has a plinth. The windows are primarily glazing bar sashes, and canted bay windows have plain sashes. The building is two storeys high and consists of a 3-window by 5-window arrangement.
The east front has a central, canted bay window with a balustrade, three lights, flanked by single sashes. Above, there are three sashes. Each return of the building displays a semicircular bow window, two storeys high, with three lights, cornices and a blocking course.
The south front, facing the garden, features a central, two-storey canted bay window with three lights, flanked by single sashes. To the left is a wing of three windows, with quoins and a balustrade, fronted by a two-storey, 3-light bow window. The north front, serving as the entrance, has a central round-arched stair window, flanked to the left by a bow window. To the right is a tripartite stucco doorcase with pilasters and an entablature, a panelled door with a fanlight and sidelights. Above the door is a pair of sashes. A wing extends to the west with a five-window range.
The interior includes stained glass within the stair window, depicting a coat of arms possibly belonging to the Seeley family.
