Description

Windles Square consists of eight houses, originally eleven knitters' cottages built in 1834. The cottages were restored and remodeled in 1972. The structure is made of brick, partly rendered, and features pantile roofs. It has corbelled eaves, ten ridge stacks, and two gable stacks. The building is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout, measuring ten bays wide by ten bays deep.

The windows are mostly casements from 1972, with segmental heads, including several large knitters' windows. On the west side, there is a casement and a doorway with a segmental head to the left, followed by a knitter's window, another door, and two small lights. Further right, there are two casements flanked by single doors, and beyond that, a door flanked to the left by two small lights and to the right by two casements. There is also a blocked opening on this side. Above, there are eleven casements.

The north side features three lean-to additions from 1972 and has regular fenestration with five doors and six casements, along with eleven casements above. The rear elevations display similar regular fenestration with ground floor openings that also have segmental heads. This building represents an early group of knitters' cottages that included ground floor workrooms.
