Description

Rectory Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse located on Stapleford Road in Trowell. The building is constructed of brick, partly rendered, and features a steeply pitched slate roof. It has first and second floor bands, dentillated wooden eaves, and coped gables. The farmhouse is two storeys plus garrets and has five bays arranged in an L-plan.

The windows are primarily glazing bar sashes and 20th-century casements. The front ground floor windows have splayed keystoned heads. The south front includes a projecting gabled wing on the left with a sash window. The central section has three sash windows, with the rightmost being larger. To the right of these is a door with an overlight. Above this, there are two sashes to the left and a 20th-century casement to the right. The upper section features three dormers, with the central one being half round and the flanking pair having gabled pediments. The east gable has a 20th-century casement.

At the rear, there are two two-storey additions and regular fenestration with casements. The west end has a door and casement on the left, and to the right, there is a door flanked by single casements, with two casements above. Surrounding the property is a brick boundary wall with chamfered ashlar coping, approximately 60 metres long. A two-storey gabled cross wing at the east end was demolished around 1965.
