Description

A barn with attached ranges of farm buildings, located at Manor Farm, dates to around 1550, with later additions and alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. The buildings are constructed of red brick, some rubble, and timber framing, with pantile roofs.

The main barn is largely of the mid-18th century, with 19th-century modifications. It is timber-framed and brick-clad, with a hipped roof and four bays. A large doorway is partially blocked, with a plank door to the right and a stable door further to the right. A 19th-century aisle with a catslide roof is at the rear (south side), featuring double doors and two plank doors. To the left is a lean-to section with a plank door, and two buttresses. The interior comprises nine posts and wall plates, with an original wattle and daub panel dividing the barn. The tie beams are supported by braces, some double arched braces, running from the posts.

A 19th-century red brick cowshed, hipped and single-storied with eight bays, projects from the front left of the barn. A further single-storied cowshed, similarly altered, adjoins it to the left. To the right of the main barn is an 18th-century, two-storied, six-bay red brick cowshed with 19th-century alterations. It features dentil eaves and altered openings. Attached to the right is a two-storied-plus-attic, single-bay red brick pigeoncote with dentil eaves on a rubble plinth. It has a stable door under a segmental arch in the north gable wall and blocked pigeon entrances above. Lean-to extensions are at the rear.

The courtyard formed by these buildings is now covered over.
