Description
The building is a primary school, dating to 1877 and designed by Robert Clarke & So..ott. Constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings, it has a slate roof with ashlar coped gables featuring small decorative ridge finials and two small ridge ventilators. A moulded eaves band sits above a plinth. The school is single-storied and eight bays wide, divided by buttresses; the outer bays are narrower. The third bay on each side is gabled. Two tall casements with a single mullion and two transoms are centrally placed. Within the gabled bays are tall, pointed arched casements with two arched and cusped lights, two transoms, and a single quatrefoil above. Further tall casements with single mullions and two transoms are located in the outer single bays. Lean-tos sit to the left and right, featuring ashlar coping and a single pointed arched, cusped light with a single transom. A bell is positioned to the right of the window in the left lean-to. The side wall of the right lean-to has a doorway with a Caernarvon arch, a wooden door, and a single ashlar cross casement to the left. A single-bay, 20th-century extension is located to the right, featuring a single casement. Rose windows are in each gable. A plaque beneath the right gabled bay is inscribed with details of the laying of the foundation stone, including the date, the architect’s name, Robert Clarke & So..ott, and the contractor, Theophilus Wilson.
