Description

Hayton Castle Farm House and Hayton Castle Cottage are a farm house and cottage built in the mid 18th century and 19th century. They are constructed of brick, which is rendered and colourwashed, and feature a steep pitched concrete tile roof. The building has first and second floor bands, coped gables, and four gable stacks, one of which is external. It is three storeys tall and has three bays. The layout is double depth with a rear wing and a single storey 19th-century service wing, forming an L-shape.

The main west front has a central 20th-century gabled brick porch with a re-set door and fanlight, flanked by two windows. Above this, there are three windows on each floor, with the central windows being smaller. All the windows are glazing bar sashes with segmental heads. The two-bay service wing to the right has two plain sash windows. The right gable features a single pointed arched casement above, while the left gable has two 20th-century casements. The rear of the building has scattered 20th-century fenestration.

Inside, there is a re-sited 18th-century winder stair with a wreathed ramped handrail, a twisted iron newel, and vase and stem balusters. The 19th-century rear wing forms Hayton Castle Cottage, which is built of brick with a pantile roof. It has dentillated eaves, a single gable, and single ridge stacks. The cottage is two storeys tall with four bays and has a lower two-storey addition at the east end. The front features, to the left, a single casement flanked by single doors; to the right, there are three casements; and beyond that, there is a lean-to tiled porch with a panelled door. All casements have segmental heads.
