Description
The former RAF Faldingworth atomic bomb store, known as the D1 preparation building, was constructed in the late 1950s. It features a mounded weapon preparation area, with the structure primarily made of reinforced concrete set within an earthen mound. The building has an irregular plan form due to the shape of the mound.
The only visible part of the building is the entrance, which consists of a large double leaf steel door with a wicket. Inside, the building has a full-height interior that is finished in painted concrete, with the reinforced concrete frame of the structure exposed.
