Description
These are a pair of cottages and a former shop, dating from the late 18th century, with extensions and alterations made in the early 19th century. The left-hand side is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble, while the right-hand side is red brick in an English garden wall bond. The roof is tiled with pantiles and features brick stacks.
The front of the cottages is two stories high and three bays wide. The central bay has a half-glazed door. To the left of the door is a two-light sliding sash window. To the right are two large, square, fixed glazing bar windows, flanking what was originally a shop door opening, now with a plain sash window to the upper part. All these ground-floor openings are set under a stop-chamfered lintel. The first floor has a single two-light sliding sash window and a 20th-century glazing bar casement. The right-hand openings have segmental brick heads, while those on the left have timber lintels. Above the left-hand ground-floor window are splayed stone voussoirs indicating an earlier opening. The original windows are notable for their unusually small panes of glass and delicate glazing bars.
