Description

The gate, screen wall, and balustrade to the west of Stoke Rochford Hall were built between 1841 and 1845 by architect William Burn for Sir Christopher Turnor. Constructed from ashlar and wrought iron, the design features central double gates that are flanked by low stone walls with four panels of pierced railings. These walls end in square panelled piers topped with moulded cornices and urns. The gates themselves have pierced and scrolled rails, adorned with openwork paterae and twisted finials at both the top and bottom of the railings, while the lower sections consist of rectangular openwork panels. The square gate piers are also decorated with paterae and ogee finials. An elaborate gate overthrow showcases intricate foliage and pinnacles, with the initials "CT" for Christopher Turnor prominently displayed at the center. A low stone balustrade with turned shafts connects the right end of the gate screen to the main house.
