Description
Elm Terrace is a former terrace of 12 estate workers' houses, now consisting of 6 houses, built around 1880 and altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed from rockfaced limestone ashlar and features a plain tiled roof with overhanging eaves and bargeboards. It has six large panelled red brick ridge stacks with moulded tops. The terrace is two storeys high with attics and has a 24-bay front. This includes 10 blocked doorways with 2-light windows, 2 blank openings on either side of the center, and 12 five-light windows. The design includes paired facades separated by 7 stepped buttresses. On the first floor, there are 12 five-light windows, all featuring timber mullions and ashlar lintels. The roof has 12 broadly gabled dormers arranged in pairs, each with weatherboarded fronts and 2-light windows. In the right-hand gable, there is a recessed rectangular panel with a moulded surround, which has a blank shield topped by a coronet. These cottages were built for estate workers on the Grimsthorpe Park Estate.
