Description
The Rectory is a Vicarage dating from about 1800. It is constructed from limestone rubble with limestone ashlar detailing, and has a hipped slate roof with a central brick ridge stack. The north front is three storeys and three bays, featuring a plinth and giant order plain pilasters at each corner that run the full height of the building. A central doorway has a semi-circular head, a pilastered doorcase with a keystone, a traceried fanlight, and a panelled door. This doorway is flanked by single glazing bar sashes, with three further glazing bar sashes above, and three smaller glazing bar sashes above those; all windows have ashlar wedge lintels incorporating large, emphatic rusticated keystones. Projecting rectangular ranges were later removed from the east and west return walls. A three-flight return staircase within the hall features slender bannisters, carved tread ends, and a moulded handrail that curls around the newel post. The first-floor landing has four archways with semi-circular heads, moulded surrounds, and flower head motifs. The drawing room has a simply moulded plaster ceiling decorated with a Greek key pattern and foliate motifs. Two small, later 19th-century cast iron fireplaces are in the bedrooms, one featuring a squirrel motif.
