Description
The Old Workhouse is a house with an attached cottage, which was formerly a workhouse and is now divided into two cottages. It dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made in 1819 and later in the 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick with painted stucco dressings and some areas of render. It features a pantile roof with overhanging eaves from the late 19th century, gable stacks, and a single ridge stack.
The structure is two stories high with a five-bay front and a brick band at the first floor level. There is a doorway on the right with a segmental head, a raised keystone, a blank overlight, and a partially glazed door. To the right of the doorway, there is a three-light casement window, and to the left, a two-light casement window with a doorway beyond that has an overlight and a panelled door. Another three-light casement window is located to the left. Above, there are two three-light casements flanking two two-light casements. All openings have segmental heads and raised stucco keystones. A painted inscription is set between the upper windows, stating "Falkingham Workhouse 1813."
