Description
27 High Street is a house that dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations made in the late 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from squared and coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. The roof is steeply pitched, gabled and hipped, covered with pantiles, and has a single axial stack with a stone base and brick top.
The house has a lobby entry plan and is a single storey with attics, presenting an irregular six-bay front. The central entrance is a 20th-century door, flanked on the left by a fixed glazing bar light with a moulded round arched top, a hood, and chamfered reveals leading to the original 16th-century doorway. Next to this is a two-light glazing bar sliding sash window and a top-hung glazing bar light. To the right of the door is a canted bay window with ovolo moulded stone mullions and a low hipped lead roof, followed by a three-light casement window. The windows are adorned with deep stone lintels featuring keystones. On the first floor, there is a single three-light plain casement at the eaves, and in the roof, there is a raking dormer with a fixed glazing bar light and rendered cheeks.
