Description

Barn Hill, dating from 1671, is a two-story house constructed of coursed rubble, with a roof of stone slates that continues the roofing style from the adjacent number 5. The front features a prominent, large canted bay window with five-light sash windows on both ground and first floors, extending to roof level. The bay is topped with a hipped roof and a dentil cornice. The ground floor windows have simulated Gothic glazing bars. A single double-hung sash window with glazing bars is present on the first floor to the right. The section of the house containing the entrance is rendered and features a six-panel door set within a moulded stone frame, which incorporates a round head and keystone, as well as a glazed fanlight above. A rear wing, built of rubble and covered with stone slates, is mainly of one story. A former stable block projects at right angles. A moulding block of four steps is located in the yard, to the side of Barn Hill House. The interior includes a well-preserved panelled room.
