Description
12 Barn Hill is a fine late 17th century house that stands two storeys high, with attics and a basement. The building features five gabled dormers; one has an original sliding sash window, while two are blocked and painted, and two have 19th century casements. It has a wide, moulded, and carved eaves cornice, and two stone chimney stacks at the gable ends. The roof is covered with stone slates, and the walls are made of coursed rubble, heavily covered in ivy.
There are five windows without glazing bars, featuring flush frames and flat stone arches with carved voussoirs. The basement windows have stone mullions but are blocked. At one end of the elevation, there is a door framed by a very fine reeded wood case, topped with a heavy moulded curved hood supported by large, elaborately moulded brackets. The door itself has six panels, two of which are glazed. Original wrought iron railings are present on a small stone wall, curving towards the doorway. The side elevation is rendered.
This property is part of a group that includes the garage premises to No 9A, Nos 9, 10, the Sunday School, and Nos 12 to 17, as well as Nos 1 to 8, All Saints' Place.
