Description
The Garden Terraces at Caythorpe Court were built around 1900 by Sir R Blomfield. They are made of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and are located on the west (garden) front of the house. The upper terrace features a battered revetment wall with pilasters and is topped with an open balustrade. The square piers of this balustrade have cornices and large stone balls. A central opening leads to a platform supported by an open segmental arch, with balustraded staircases descending on either side. The lower terrace also has a battered and pilastered wall, which ends in a plain stone coping. Its central opening leads to a solid platform from which a pair of flanking balustraded stairs descend to the lower terrace. These terraces enhance the view of the main west front of the house and are included for their group value only.
