Description

The garden terraces, piers, and balustrades at Brocklesby Park were designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield in 1898. They are constructed from ashlar and red brick. The south and northeast fronts feature decorative pillars that frame the view of the Yew Walk. These pillars have square shafts with recessed angles and panelled sides that display relief carvings of fruit and flowers in the William and Mary style. They are topped with an overhanging cornice and tall urns with slender knobs. Surrounding these pillars are balustrades and terraces; the lower sections are made of panelled brickwork, while the upper sections are entirely of ashlar. The balusters are turned and vase-shaped, separated by rectangular panels that create bays, and they support a continuous moulded coping.
