Description
This is a row of shops, offices, and flats, built around 1830 and altered in the 20th century. It is located on the south side of Market Place in Market Deeping. The front is ashlar, with a hipped slate roof and two ashlar ridge stacks.
The building is three storeys and five bays wide, with the central bay slightly recessed. The ground floor is rusticated, and there’s a band above the ground floor, as well as a plain frieze beneath the moulded eaves. A pair of central four-panel doors, with fanlights above, are flanked by single sash windows, all with rusticated voussoirs. To the left, there are two 20th-century fixed lights, next to a contemporary planked door with an overlight. To the right, a fine early 19th-century wooden shop front features recessed central double doors with a half-glazed upper panel, flanked by single shop windows, all contained within a pilastered surround. The surround supports a dentillated fascia with wreaths and a cornice.
On the first floor, a central sash window with pilasters and a pediment is flanked by pairs of sash windows with moulded architraves and cornices. A narrow balcony with a semi-circular headed arched balustrade, supported on acanthus brackets, is positioned below the central first-floor window. The second floor has five small square sash windows with moulded architraves. The rear of the building is red brick.
