Description
No. 8 Market Place is a late 18th-century building that has been altered in the 20th century. It features squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped by a Collyweston slate roof with stone-coped gables and two ashlar gable stacks with moulded cornices. The building is two storeys high with attics and has a three-bay front, which includes a first-floor cill band and a dentillated timber cornice.
The central entrance consists of an eight-panel door set in a panelled reveal, surrounded by a moulded and eared stone frame with a reeded and paterae frieze and a dentillated cornice. This door is flanked by two large 20th-century bow windows. On the first floor, there are three glazing bar sash windows with moulded stone architraves. At the eaves level of the roof, there are three gabled dormers, each with glazing bar sashes, moulded eaves, and Collyweston slate cheeks. Inside, the building features a swept staircase with narrow moulded balusters and a wreathed handrail.
