Description

The building is a school and attached schoolhouse, constructed in 1867. It is made of coursed ironstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features fishscale slate roofs with iron ridges and small ventilators. The structure has a T-plan, with a single-storey school extending to the north at a right angle from the schoolhouse.

The north side of the school has a projecting ashlar-dressed stack, an ornate shaped gable, and a coped chimney. The west front features an ashlar plinth and a narrow rectangular plain sashed window to the north, accompanied by a small buttress supporting a slight projection. This projection has an ornate shaped gable with a finial and contains a large three-mullion rectangular window with a small triangular opening above. There is also a small buttress to the south and two large rectangular windows beyond, one with a single mullion and the other with two mullions.

The cross wing includes a small buttress and a small rectangular window on the north side, along with a large ashlar-dressed lateral stack topped with two tall chimneys. A pointed doorway is located at the north end of the west front projection, with a small rectangular window to the south. Above the doorway is a plaque featuring a large 'B' for Brownlow inscribed on a shield, with a small gable set over a bell and a large coped gable above that, also with a finial.
