Description
Bowthorpe Park Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. The roof is made of Collyweston slate and has two gable ashlar stacks, with the left-hand stack being external and adorned with moulded plinths, paired shafts, and cornices. The building has a T-plan layout and is two stories tall with a three-bay front that includes a chamfered plinth.
The central entrance consists of a fully glazed door from the 20th century, set within a moulded ashlar surround that has a cornice. This door is flanked by two four-light ovolo mullioned windows, also with cornices. On the first floor, there is a central lower three-light window with a cornice, flanked by two four-light mullioned windows at the eaves.
Inside, the farmhouse retains a contemporary oak staircase featuring a deeply moulded handrail, plain square newels with moulded terminals, and turned balusters. There are also two 17th-century ashlar chimney pieces with Tudor arched heads and cornices. The roof is oak framed and constructed with butt purlins.
