Description
The Crew Yard, Beast Houses, and Barn at Grange Farm is a structure dating from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is built from coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and has Collyweston slate roofs. The building has an E-plan layout and is a single storey with a two-bay front range. The central section has double planked doors set in a segmental arched opening, with a blank keyed occulus above it in the segmental gable. To the right, there is a segmental arched opening leading to two planked pig feeding hatches on the gable of the side range. The central gable is flanked by two similar segmental gables, each with a keyed occulus and single circular openings on either side. The crew yard features corrugated iron roofs supported by square brick piers. The barn, which dates from the late 18th century, includes a planked doorway and two segmental arched planked openings, with planked doorways and louvred openings on the side walls. The barn has a 19th-century King post roof. The farm has historical ties to the Brownlow and Cust families.
