Description
Brownlow House is a house that may date from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with elements from the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed rubble ironstone with ashlar dressings and features a very steep pantile roof with stone-coped gables, along with a single exposed brick ridge stack and a single brick gable stack. The house is two stories with a garret.
On the north front, there is a single three-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor, which has a moulded cornice. To the south, there is a 20th-century casement window and a small rectangular 20th-century window set between them, both with wooden lintels. Above these, there are two 20th-century casement windows, also with wooden lintels. The east return features a single three-light stone mullion window with a moulded cornice, along with another above it, both of which were restored in the 19th century. The garret window has a sliding sash with a wooden lintel.
At the rear, there is an 18th-century wing that contains a relocated 17th-century doorway with a shallow four-centred head, a moulded cornice, and a partially glazed 20th-century door.
