Description
The South Gates to Belton Park, located on Londonthorpe Road in Londonthorpe, are early 18th-century park gates, boundary wall, and screen that were moved from the South Parterre later in the 18th century. The gates are made of wrought iron and feature an overthrow and screen. The structure includes ashlar piers and a wall, with square rusticated gate piers topped by lions that face towards the house, each holding cartouche shields with coronets above. The gates themselves have one decorative panel each and are adorned with a highly decorated overthrow that contains a central shield and the motto "Esse Quam Videri." To the left, there is a low ashlar wall leading to a lodge, and to the right, a further pier topped by an iron screen with decorative panels in each bay, alternately surmounted by a coronet and a greyhound.
