Description
The Mill is a late 18th-century water mill and house located on Londonthorpe Road, also accessible from Grantham Road in Manthorpe. The building is constructed of brick and coursed rubble, topped with a pantile roof. The house is two stories high with a garret and features three bays, a stone-coped gable, and brick gable stacks. It has a stone plinth, a brick band at the first floor, and dog tooth dentilation at the eaves. The central doorway is now blocked with a 20th-century glazing bar sash, while the remaining openings have 18th-century sashes, all with segmental heads.
Adjacent to the house is a three-bay mill building that includes a granary, paddle wheel, and gear rooms, with the arrangement of the mill race and pond still intact. The mill buildings are designed with three gabled bays, the central bay being segmental. The left bay features double doors to the granary beneath a deep segmental arch, the center bay has plain double doors to the paddle wheel house with a shallow segmental arch, and the right bay has a sliding door to the gearing chamber accessed by wooden steps. Each gable has a central window at a high level, with the two on the right being casements and the one on the left a fixed light. The granary is topped with a timber and leaded cupola that houses a bell. The paddle wheel house is situated on a brick bridge. All machinery remains in situ and is in working order, including the grinding chamber located at the rear of the house.
