Description

No. 13 High Road is a house dating from around 1800, which was remodeled as an estate cottage in 1853 and has undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick and coursed squared stone, featuring ashlar dressings and a pantile roof. It has a central coped brick ridge stack and is two storeys high with a two-window range. The coped facing gable includes kneelers and a reglazed two-light window with a stone surround and mullion, along with a similar three-light window below, both adorned with cornices.

On the right side, there is a high-gabled porch that has a plinth, a heavy impost band, a coped gable, a finial, and a datestone. The porch features a round arched doorway with a cornice keystone and a small round arched window on each side. To the right of the porch, there is a single-storey lean-to addition that includes a coped through-eaves dormer and a single light window. This estate cottage was provided for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
