Gardeners cottage. c.1723, possibly by Sir John Vanbrugh. Ashlar, decorative tiled facetted roof with pineapple wooden finial. Single ridge yellow brick stack having ashlar base and moulded top. Rectangular plan with facetted end front. Single storey with attics, 3 bay front having plinth, rusticated quoins, plain frieze with raised panels, moulded cornice. Central semi- circular panelled door with vermiculated surface, flanked by single fixed glazing bar lights. All openings are semi-circular headed with stepped reveals and keyblocks. In the roof is a semi-circular headed dormer with scrolled sides, ball finials and leaded roof. The sides are of squared limestone rubble and have pairs of 3 light glazing bar windows and in the roof 2 pedimented dormers with glazing bar lights and rendered cheeks. In Grimsthorpe Park, part of building work for First Duke of Ancaster.
