Description

A house and adjoining walls, dating from the early 18th century with alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is built of red brick with a slate roof, and has two gable and one ridge stack, with a further single gable stack to the rear. Brick copings are present to the gables, with 20th-century patching to the eaves featuring a wooden cornice. The building has a plinth and a first-floor band, and is arranged in a T-plan with two storeys and seven bays. The central doorway has been partly blocked and now features an inserted sash window. A 19th-century porch, open to the front, has Doric half columns and carved heads on the dosserets. Single narrow sash windows are located either side of the porch, and further single and double sash windows are set into the facade. All sashes have flush wedge lintels. The left gable wall has a stepped band to the first floor. A red brick wall projects to the left, punctuated by a small gateway with two red brick piers topped with moulded ashlar coping, which terminates in a single similar pier. Spiked iron railings extend from this pier at a right angle in front of the house, with two small gateways and terminating in a single pier. Internally, a single room and one wall of another room have moulded and bolection panelling. Two rooms on the first floor also feature similar panelling, and one has a bolection fire surround. Doors have moulded panels and L-shaped hinges, and there are panelled shutters. The staircase is an open-well design, extending to the top floor, with barley sugar balusters having turned bases.
