Description

J R Scott's Almshouses is a row of four almshouses built in 1904. They are constructed from white brick, featuring red brick and ashlar dressings, and have plain tile roofs adorned with ornate ridge tiles. The building has three sets of ridge stacks and a red brick plinth, quoins, cill band, and eaves. It is a single-storey structure with six bays, where the central two bays project slightly. This section has a wide overhanging gable with ornate barge-boarding and a finial topped with a weather vane.

The gable features two three-light casements with upper glazing bar lights, flat brick heads, and ashlar keystones. Above, there is a round-headed ashlar plaque inscribed 'J R SCOTT. ALMSHOUSES 1904', framed by red brick and an ashlar keystone. On either side of the central gable are single round-headed doorways with ornate, curved pediments that have ashlar coping. Flanking these doorways are additional three-light casements with glazing bar upper lights, flat brick heads, and ashlar keystones, each set beneath a single gable with ornate barge-boarding and a finial.
