Description
Bristol Arcade is a late Georgian building that stands three storeys tall, constructed from ashlar stone with chamfered rusticated quoins. There is a decorative band between the first and top storeys. The facade features five windows with bolection moulded stone frames; only the centre window on the top storey retains its later glazing bars and has a segmental head with a keystone. At the centre, there is a small pediment with a semi-circular glazed window in the tympanum, and the building is topped with an embattled parapet. The ground floor has been modernized and includes a central flat-arched entry. Stacks are located at the gable ends, and the building now serves as the north entrance to a shopping arcade. Inside the passage to the east, there is a 19th-century tablet resembling a tombstone that advertises Post Horses and Carriages for hire, featuring a cherub's mask. Bristol Arcade and No 17 are part of a group.
