Description
Kirkby Green Mill is a watermill dating from the early 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings and features a pantile roof. The building has brick dentilated eaves and a plinth. There are two ground floor doorways with wooden lintels and plank doors, along with a single loft doorway, also with a plank door, set under a brick segment head. To the north, there is an in-built single storey wheelhouse that includes a doorway and a penstock, both featuring segment brick heads. The pit wall and downstream wall are made of brick. Inside, there is a low breast-shot wheel and other corn grinding machinery, which are mostly intact but in a very decayed state. The mill is reputed to have last been operational in 1935.
