Description

Coggesford Mill is a watermill for grinding corn, dating from the mid-18th century, with early 19th-century additions and alterations. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with red brick ashlar dressings and has pantile roofs. The building is two stories high, with the ground floor from the 18th century and the upper floor rebuilt in the 19th century. The west front features an off-centre doorway with a plank door, flanked by small casement windows. Above the door is a loft doorway, partly filled by a sliding sash window, with another sliding sash window to the right. Attached to the north is a 19th-century lean-to shed. Under the southern section, there is a shallow brick arch. The stepped mill race to the south has brick side walls, now capped with engineering brick. To the west, there is an attached shallow brick arched footbridge with brick parapets and slightly angled abutments. Inside the mill, there is a large wooden wheel, likely a late 19th-century copy of the original wheel.
