Description
The Old Workhouse Cottages and attached outbuilding are a pair of cottages believed to have been the old workhouse, dating from 1782 and the early 19th century. They are constructed of coursed limestone rubble and brick, with a pantile roof featuring two gable ends and a single rear lateral brick stack. The eaves are adorned with brick dentillation. The building is two stories high and has six bays.
The cottage on the left has a central doorway with a plank door, flanked by single two-light sliding sash windows, all featuring segmental brick heads. Above, there are two cross casements at the eaves. The cottage on the right has a central half-glazed door, flanked by single plain three-light sliding sash windows, with two similar windows above, all with wooden lintels.
To the right of the cottages is a single-storey outbuilding that has a single plank door. The north gable of the outbuilding features a plaque inscribed 'W. M. 1782'.
