Description
Nos 1, 3, and 3A Northgate is a building from the early to mid-19th century. It stands three storeys tall, constructed from coursed stone with ashlar dressings and topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring three stone stacks. The building has bracketed eaves and a window arrangement of four on the first floor and two on the second, all set in moulded stone surrounds with triple keystones and continuous cills. The first-floor windows are adorned with pediments supported by brackets. The right-hand section, which features two windows, projects slightly forward and is accentuated by rusticated quoins, which are also present throughout the entire building. Number 1 retains the remains of a 19th-century shop front on the ground floor, while the others have modern shop fronts. There is a segmental carriage archway to the right with a rusticated head, a window on the left corner with an iron balcony above a round-arched doorway, and one window facing the West Gate elevation. Nos 1 to 9 (odd), including No 3A, are recognized as a group.
