Description

305 and 306 High Street is a shop and office building dating from 1900, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. It was designed by William Watkins of Lincoln for Brown, Hewitt & Co. The building is constructed of brick with terracotta dressings and features a slate roof with two panelled side wall stacks. It is designed in the Flemish Renaissance Revival style.

The façade includes giant pilasters, with those at the corners topped with domed finials, an enriched moulded cornice, and a coped gable. The building stands four storeys high, plus attics, and is composed of three bays. The windows are adorned with terracotta mullions and transoms. The 20th-century shopfront spans two storeys and features a fascia with a full-width glazed panel above it. Above the shopfront, there are two floors, each with a four-light window flanked by single crested bow windows, also two storeys high. The attic gable contains a four-light ogee-headed window with a blind arcade above it, and a latticed round-headed opening at the peak of the gable, all flanked by pilasters with domed finials.

The terracotta dressings were produced by the Hathern Station Brick Company of Loughborough. The interior has not been inspected.
