Description
No. 42 Michaelgate is a house and shop dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of brick with a stone plinth and features a pantile roof with two gable stacks. The building has a first-floor band and is two storeys tall, plus garrets, with two bays. The front of the building includes a moulded wooden doorcase with a small hood, and a beaded panelled door with an overlight. To the left, there is a late 18th-century glazing bar shop window with pilasters and a cornice, while to the right, there is a plain sash window in an altered segment-headed opening. Above, to the left, is a small casement window, and to its right, there are two 18th-century glazing bar sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
