Description

No. 40 Michaelgate is a house dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed of dressed stone and brick, featuring a close-studded first floor with rendered nogging and a pantile roof. The building has two storeys and two bays. The street front displays a replica plank door on the left and a two-light sliding sash window on the right. Above this window, there is a 20th-century casement window. The south gable includes a 20th-century door on the left and a 20th-century casement window above. The gable framing is characterized by curved braces and corner posts. The interior has not been inspected.
