Description
Chestnut House is a house located on Steep Hill in Lincoln, dating from the mid-18th century, with late 19th-century additions and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of brick and features a slate roof with a single gable and side wall stacks. It has moulded dentilled wooden eaves and a brick-coped gable. The house is two storeys tall, plus attics, and has a three by four bay layout.
The street-facing side includes a central canted bay window from the mid-18th century, which has a cornice and glazing bar sashes. Above this bay window are three 18th-century glazing bar sashes with flat arches. The south front features a full-width single-storey addition from the late 19th century, which has a wooden balustrade on its flat roof. This addition includes two glazing bar sashes flanked by single doors, all with segmental heads. One of the doors leads to No.11 Steep Hill. Above and behind the addition are three French windows and, to the right, a casement window, all from the 20th century. Additionally, there is a gabled dormer above and to the right, an unusual two-light casement window, both from the 19th century. The interior has not been inspected.
