Description
No. 42 Silver Street is a former stationers' shop, now used as offices, dating from 1873 and altered in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof with two side wall stacks. It is designed in the Venetian Revival style, characterized by quoins, bracketed string courses, a wavy corbel table, a billeted frieze, pierced balustrade, and ringed wall shafts.
The structure has three storeys and two bays. The full-width shopfront is a late 20th-century addition. Above the shopfront, there are two moulded round-headed recesses adorned with dogtooth bands and shafts, each containing two roll-moulded round-headed windows with single shafts. Above these, there are four smaller round-headed windows with moulded heads, dogtooth bands, and shafts. The wall shafts feature capitals inscribed with initials and the date, 1873. The interior has not been inspected.
