Description

The Cedars is an early 19th-century house located on St Mary's Lane. The garden front is finished in stucco and features two storeys with five sash windows. A central porch supported by four Doric columns is adorned with a triglyph frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The eaves are plain, and the roof is hipped and covered with slate. The house is situated in a prominent position on a slope, overlooking the west end of Westgate. The side and rear elevations have a similar style but lack any special features. The Cedars was home to Charlotte Alington Barnard from 1830 to 1869, who wrote under the pseudonym "Claribel" and is known for the song 'Come back to Erin' among others.
