Description
No. 3 East Street is a house dating from the early 18th century, which was raised and refronted in the late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick, partly in English bond, with stucco dressings, and features a hipped pantile roof with a single gable and two ridge stacks. The building has an L-plan and is two storeys high, with a brick dentillated eaves course.
Originally, the front of the house had five bays facing the road, and evidence of this can still be seen in the blocked openings, including the site of the central door. The main front of the house is now on the side and consists of six bays arranged in a 2:2:2 pattern, with the central bays slightly advanced and pedimented.
The central half-glazed door features a traceried fanlight with a panelled reveal and a simple Greek Doric porch with an entablature. This door is flanked by pairs of tall glazing bar sashes, with the left-hand window converted into a French window. On the first floor, there are six glazing bar sashes. All windows have painted splayed lintels with raised keystones. In the gable, there is a blank semi-circular headed opening with a raised keystone.
