Description

The war memorial, located in the churchyard on the south side of the church in Alford, was designed by Sir Ninian Comper and completed in 1919. It is constructed from ashlar stone and takes the form of a medieval churchyard cross. The memorial features a square base set on three octagonal steps, which supports a tapering octagonal shaft that rises to a castellated top with a crucifixion. The faces of the base and steps are inscribed, with the west face displaying a wreath that contains the inscription "To the Men of Alford who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-19."
