Description

The building is a Baptist chapel, now serving as the Salvation Army headquarters. It was originally constructed in 1767, with alterations made in 1843 and the 20th century. The structure is made of red brick, featuring a chequered pattern with some yellow brick and painted ashlar dressings, topped with a corrugated iron roof.

The east front, which was raised in chequered brick in 1843, is two stories high and consists of a single bay. It has quoins and a central doorway with a moulded wooden doorcase, entablature, and double, partially glazed doors. To the right of the doorway is a small 20th-century casement window, and to the left is a notice board. There is an ashlar band at the second floor level and a blind oculus in the gable, which has been blocked with brick.

The south side of the building has been extended to the west and raised in 1843, featuring two glazing bar sashes with ashlar keystones and segmental heads, and two additional glazing bar sashes above, both with segmental heads. Similarly, the north side has also been extended to the west and raised in 1843, with two glazing bar sashes featuring ashlar keystones and segmental heads. To the right, there is a plain doorway with a rendered lintel, a segmental head, and a plank door, along with two glazing bar sashes with segmental heads above. Additionally, there are two weathered gravestones attached to the wall on the left side.
