Description
The New Leake, Eastville, and Midville War Memorial is situated in a small area enclosed by posts with a spiked chain, featuring a small gate at the front, within a graveled garden to the south of St Jude’s Mission Church, which is not listed. The memorial is a rough-hewn Latin cross made of granite, adorned with an incised cross on the front face. It stands on a two-stage square plinth, which is set on a two-stepped square base.
The front face of the upper stage of the base bears an inscription in black incised lettering that reads: "THIS CROSS WAS DEDICATED BY THE/ PARISHIONERS OF NEW LEAKE & EASTVILLE/ IN MEMORY OF THE MEN WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914-1918." Below this, on the lower stage, are the names of 12 individuals listed in three columns, followed by the phrase: "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS THAT A/ MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS."
